SOLO TRIP TO OTIS DAY 1
Today, I had to laugh to avoid screaming. The plan for today was to wake up early, get a bike ride in, shower, take the grabage to the dump, drive to Hudson to get the Jeep inspected and on the way, stop in Great Barrington to have breakfast at Martins. Stops along the way for pictures, and on the way home, visit Berkshire Bike and Blade, pick up some things at Price Chopper, have dinner at Glory of India, and then flip the kayaks on the trailer to store them for the winter. Well, that aint the way it turned out folks. Woke up around 8:00 after fighting with migrating my Outlook data from our old server to the new server until 3:00 in the morning (unsuccessfully, I might add: Megapath was doing maintenance and I kept getting kicked off). Dragged myself into the shower, had a bowl of Raisin Bran because I was starving and couldn't wait for Great Barrington. Left for Hudson, forgetting about the garbage (and to take the Garmin). I DID stop at Barrington Outfitters to get my new coat though. Stopped on Rte 23 in Hillsdale for a few pictures. Got to Hudson, went to Jiffy Lube for the oild change and inspection - FAILED the inspection 'cause the headlights weren't working. The guy a JL said the bulbs were no good so I went to a local auto parts store for new bulbs. Got the bulbs, went to install them, realized I needed a screwdriver. Went back into the store and bought a screwdriver. Replaced the first bulb - still no workie! Drove around looking for an auto repair shop guessing there was an electrcial problem and needed fixing. Couldn't find one. Getting hungry. Ate a Powerbar. Found an Auto Zone. Went in and asked if anyone knew of a local shop. Got directions to one. Went there. Weird folks, one was a white trash hick, the other a pretty nice Jamaican guy named Basil. Basil took a look and figured out the switch needed cleaning. So I removed the switch, he cleaned it, and bingo, I'm in business. Back to JL. The lights broke AGAIN. No inspection yet! back to Basil. Basil's guy Louis (looks, sounds, acts and has a history almost identical to LB) takes a look and agrees it's the switch. He rebuilds the switch, takes about 1 hour. Working. I leave for JL. One last test, Oy! The lights are ON but won't turn OFF! Back to Louis. Another 45 minutes goes by. He gets it working. Louis accompanies me to JL this time. I get the inspection. Thank God. Started this little jaunt at 12:00 in JL, left there at 3:30. On the way back to Otis, stopped and got a few pretty good fall foliage landscape shots. Went to GB, shopped at Price Chopper, ate a GREAT Indian dinner (Aloo Gobi, Shrimp Vindaloo, Paratha Gobi and Tika something). Walked arounf Gb for a while, and got some cool nighttime shots of Main Street and Railroad Street. Back home now, and getting ready for beddy bye. I guess tomorrow is going to be a busy, busy day! :-)
