My New Kestrel Talon SL
MY NEW KESTREL TALON SL
Well, I did it. I got a new bike this year. I didn't
intend to, but circumstances just sort of came together. At first, I decided to get a pair of Powercranks. They are great for training, and I hope they help my running. However, they are a pretty permenant fixture on my bike. I decided to install them on my Lemond which I keep in Otis for training indoors and riding up there so I don't have to carry a bike back and forth all the time. That leaves me with my Griffen Tri bike and my Trek 5900 Road Bike to train on and ride on in Baldwin. I couldn't decide what to install the Powercranks on at first, but concluded that putting them on the Lemond make the most sense. My intention at that point was to just leave them on the Lemond, leave the Lemond in Otis, train on that when I was there, and if I planned on riding up North, I'd bring a bike with me. Of course, even the idea of that quickly became too cumbersome to handle. So, I decided to get another bike to keep in Otis. It started as a simple "somehting" just to get by. But then, I borrowed a nice bike, a Kestrel Talon from my friend Frank to take some pictures on for his web site and fell in love with it. Almost wouldn't have given it back to him except it was way too small (54 cm). About a week later, I decided to order one (I just couldn't resist). So, order it I did. I went "stock" to keep the price down. However, Frank knew that I really wanted the new Dura Ace 20-speed drivetrain and ordered the bike with that instead of the stock Ultegra. He even expedited the order for me. As luck would have it, right after he ordered the bike, I discovered the Talon SL, a much higher-end, better-quality carbon bike. i immediately told Frank that was the bike I wanted. He had no problem making the change in the order. However, as luck would have it, the bike arrived 1 week sooner than expected, right as he was on the phone changing the order! Frank being the great guy that he is, ordered the Talon SL frame from Kestrel and rebuilt the bike on that frame when it arrived. That's SERVICE. So, the long and short of the story is I have a GREAT new bike - a bike that's probably better than my Trek. I think my Trek weighs in at 17+ pounds. The Kestrel weighs a meager 16.1 pounds. Nice. I hope I can live up to this machine. I can't thank Frank enough. There is no other guy in the world like him. He put this bike together as good as it can possibly be put together. THANK! YOU THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
