Otis, September, 2006 Having spent the better part of 20 years visiting the Berkshires on a regular basis, and planning to retire in the area when the time came, my wife, kids and I decided about 4 years ago to take the first step towards making that plan become a reality and purchased a home in Otis. We spend a great deal of time in Otis and the surrounding area enjoying many of the things the Berkshires has to offer. We especially enjoy the silence here as well as the relaxed pace and general niceness of the folks who live here. Personally, I spend a lot of time outdoors; hiking, skiing, cycling and enjoying photography. The spider web image was my reward for getting up and out at the first signs of daylight on an overcast, chilly morning. My objective was to find some morning mist over water, specifically at Lower Spectacle Pond, but on my way there, I caught a glimpse of a group of spider webs suspended from reeds on the roadside of Route 23. I stopped my car, jumped out and grabbed my gear, got as close as I could to the reeds and set up. Took a few meter readings, counted my blessings for the great light (nice and even) and copious amount of dew present on the webs and began shooting. The results speak for themselves. I'll be hanging some prints of that day's images in my house for sure.
